Hearts Are Floating For...Woods Hole

This is one of my favorite views in the world. It makes me wildly giddy with excitement. What exactly are you looking at? This is the staging area in Woods Hole, MA for the ferry to Martha's Vineyard. That ship takes you to one of the most perfect places on the planet.

Tomorrow morning I'll be in this exact location. My bags are packed with tons of layers. The weather on Friday calls for sun and 70's and then Saturday turns to rain and cold. But no matter the temperatures I'll be spending time at the beach, sipping a mojito at Sharky's and taking in every precious moment on the island.

See you on Monday!

Hearts Are Floating For...Burberry Prorsum Trench Coat

For the longest time I was not a fan of trench coats. They reminded me of creepy men lurking in the park...you know, the flasher sort. But more and more they have begun to interest me. Every fashion "list of items every girl should own" always includes the LBD, a white button down, diamond studs...and a trench coat. So I started thinking it over and have been considering the idea. Then over the summer, I spotted it.  My dream trench. A far cry from the traditional gabardine. This jewel-encrusted beauty called to me from the windows of the flagship Burberry store on Newbury Street.

Sadly, it also comes with the Prorsum price tag of $4,000 but I still can dream of it showing up under my Christmas tree, right? (Ahem...*cough* hint hint)

Hearts Are Floating For...Homecomings

It's been a long two weeks but Bill is finally home from his whirlwind trip across the world. (Literally! Boston to Paris to Geneva to Munich to Shanghai and back home.)  I'm good at keeping busy when he is away but it is SO nice to have him back home.  We celebrated this morning with brunch at EVO.

Giving Daisy some love before we headed out. She missed him terribly!

Mimosa! And then I splurged for the first time in 2 weeks on Italian French Toast with Berries.

Fall cupcakes at The Bean Counter. I window shopped only but did get a pumpkin latte...a fall favorite.

* Photos taken with Retro Cam so excuse the quality. I'm still trying to figure it out!

Hearts Are Floating For...Tie-Neck Blouses

Lately I've been seeing tie-neck blouses popping up everywhere.  I admit that they do scare me.  I immediately flash to Jane Fonda in 9 to 5.  (You remember this movie, right? Ya, you do. Don't lie. And more important, don't make me feel old.)

I think there are a few key rules to pulling off this look so you don't head straight down Frumpy Lane.  First, pick a light, flowy fabric to give the blouse a feminine shape.  If the top is too structured you run the risk of looking like a librarian.  And second, pair it with a less conservative bottom.  I'd choose a pair of skinny jeans or tuck it into a pair of dressy shorts or a pencil skirt with some fun heels.

My favorite that I've found so far is J. Crew's Secretary Blouse.  But J. Crew can usually do no wrong in my eyes!

Hearts Are Floating For...Online Glossies

My love affair with magazines began at the age of 11 when my first issue of YM (Young Miss Magazine) arrived in my mailbox.  I was immediately taken with the photographs of the clothing and endless articles on beauty products and styling tips.  Nothing much has changed as anyone who has visited my house can attest.  I have stacks of "glossies" stashed away in every corner.  It's even become a slight battle between me and Bill as to which ones I can keep.  Enter the new breed: online magazines.  I am smitten!  No more fighting about tossing back issues since they are always available with a few simple clicks.  Here are my three favorites that I continue to drool over.

Rue Magazine (the one that started it all for me)

Matchbook Magazine (girly with loads of culture)

Sweet Paul (the food photos and recipes are perfection)

Hearts Are Floating For...Missoni For Target

Today the Missoni for Target collection hit stores. All day my Twitter feed was abuzz with rumours that stores were wiped out of everything. And then Target's website crashed from all the traffic. I anxiously watched the clock all day with a sinking feeling that by the time I got to the store I would find nothing. I was partially right...the racks and shelves were sparse...but I manages to snatch up a few pieces that I am very excited about.

No doubt this will be dubbed my Charlie Brown sweater.  For the chevron design and the fact that I will be living in it this fall.  I plan on mixing this with some fun prints I already own.

Fun tights that I will be wearing as soon as the temperature drops.

My favorite find...neutral heels with the Missoni design on the toe.

Hearts Are Floating For...Prabal Gurung

The Prabal Gurung Spring 2012 collection is just...beautiful. I admit that I got choked up. Okay...I lie...I actually shed tears. The movement of the dresses, the violet hues, and the shapes were all very unexpected and quite breath taking.  I'll take one each of the following please.

Hearts Are Floating For...The National

Friday night we headed into Boston to see The National play at the Bank of America Pavilion. After two hours of fighting traffic we finally joined everyone for drinks and dinner at the Atlantic Beer Garden. I haven't been to the Seaport District in quite some time and was really amazed at the all new restaurants and bars. The whole area was sparkling. We lucked out after our week of rain and had a beautiful night for the outdoor show. The band was great live and played many of our favorite songs. It was the perfect way to kick off the weekend.

I love Katie & Mike being silly in the background.

Hearts Are Floating For...Hunter Boots

I have been living in my red Hunter rain boots for the past two days so I thought it would be appropriate to pull out an old post from the archives. Want a pair?  Get 'em here...Nordstrom.

This was originally posted on March 24, 2010.

Yesterday it poured.  The kind of rain that comes down sideways where not even an umbrella can keep you dry. Call it bad timing but today my new red Hunter rain boots were delivered and the sun is shining.  Not that I am complaining because I would much rather sun than rain.  And after all it is spring in New England, so the rain will be back anytime and I will be happily jumping in puddles with my new, shiny boots.
