Hearts Are Floating For...Back to Work Shopping

On Thursday, I started my new job at an ad agency. Since I haven't worked in the past nine months, my shopping privileges had been reduced to almost zero. If you know me at all, you understand that this has been very painful for me. To celebrate my employment, I went on a bit of a shopping spree to stock up on basics for the workplace. I'm not much for suits and overly tailored looks so it's fortunate that I always work in creative environments where jeans are a staple and almost anything goes.

Hearts Are Floating For...Fall

HAPPY AUTUMNAL EQUINOX!

Today marks the beginning of my favorite time of year. Although the forecast shows temperatures in the 80s, I will do my best to celebrate the season with all things leaves and pumpkins. Here are a few things I'm looking forward to.

* Being in a new city this year, I plan to venture out into the farmlands of Kansas in search of apple orchards and pumpkin patches.

* Baking pies...I have yet to learn how to make one from scratch but this season I plan to try this Blueberry Blackberry Pie recipe. (Check out Joy the Baker because I love her...a lot.)

* Cozy sweaters, plaid skirts, riding boots, and lots and lots of scarves.

* Halloween - the BEST holiday of the year. Costumes + Candy = Perfection. (I am a bit apprehensive this year due to the fact that we live on the 19th floor of a high rise building. It doesn't exactly scream trick-or-treaters so I may have to find alternate plans. Maybe a few pumpkin ales at a local pub will fill the void.)

* All my seasonal decorations are packed away in storage back in MA so I'll have to invest in a few new things this year. I like simplicity and these colorful leaves would be a nice touch to our apartment.

Hearts Are Floating For...Aquinnah - Martha's Vineyard

I feel like every time I go to Martha's Vineyard I take this same picture of the cliffs in Aquinnah. It's beauty never gets old. I also never tire of visiting the island even though I go several times a year. There is just something about it that makes me feel like I'm a million miles from civilization. Maybe it's the fact that you have to take a ferry or that there is not one traffic light or chain store/restaurant that makes it peaceful and recharges my well-being.

The Ashley Inn - Our home for the first two nights before we moved to the cottage with the whole family.

L'etoile - A favorite place for dinner.

Newes From America where we can often be found each night. It's mandatory that I stop in for a Blueberry Ale and then awkwardly try to get the blueberries out of the bottom of my empty glass.

Days were spent on the beach reading and napping. I read On the Island by Tracey Garvis-Graves. Go read this book now! And keep a box of tissues nearby!
