Hearts Are Floating For...Daytime Clutches

Typically clutches are synonymous with an evening out or a special occasion outfit. But lately, the runways have been showing them as a chic, daytime accessory. I usually carry around half the house with me so this could be a challenge. Ask anyone who has ever picked up my bag and they will confirm this fact. However, switching to a smaller, brightly-colored clutch is such an easy way to change up (and lighten-up!) my look for spring.

Hearts Are Floating For...Tiananmen Square - Beijing, China

Visiting Tiananmen Square was probably one of the more subdued tourist stops during our trip to China. The square is massive and sits just across from the entrance to the Forbidden City. The area is sectioned off, heavily guarded by soldiers, and to enter you must pass through security. These are all reminders of the violence that occurred here in 1989 when hundreds of civilians lost their lives while protesting in the square.

My March Birchbox is here! This month's theme is "Spring Training"...all those products you need to take you from the cold winter months into the nicer weather that's ahead. (Although it was in the 80s here today so I feel like I've skipped spring and gone right into July.)  Here's all the fun stuff I received this month:

AHAVA Essential Day Moisturizer
Annick Goutal Eau d'Hadrien
Color Club Nail Lacquer in Jackie Oh!
Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Cleanser

Hearts Are Floating For...Radiohead

I love unexpected plans. I had pictured my Sunday to be a relaxing and somewhat lazy day beginning with brunch and ending with an evening in, reading or watching a movie. My day did start with brunch but instead ended with tickets to see Radiohead. Both Bill and I have been fans for as long as we can remember so we were very excited to see them live...and they did not disappoint. Thom Yorke's voice is flawless and the show production was very impressive with bold lighting and a dozen screens that floated over the stage, shifting into various angles.

(And they played "How to Disappear Completely", one of my all time favorite songs!)

Hearts Are Floating For...Team Spirit

This weekend's plans didn't go as expected, but in the end, it turned out better than my original ideas. (Except for the nasty migraine that kept me on the couch buried under my blanket on Friday night.) By Saturday morning I was recovered and after sleeping in and a good session at the gym, I was ready for fun. As I mentioned in my previous post, the Big 12 College Basketball games were in town and I figured if you can't beat 'em, join 'em. And since all the festivities were being held just a few short blocks from where I live, I was curious to see what all the fuss was about. (P.S. I still don't get it but have come to the conclusion that girls like me who attended small, private, preppy liberal arts colleges in New England are not meant to understand.)

One of many keg deliveries being made to local restaurants and bars.

The Sprint Center with celebratory tents in the streets.

We had a few drinks at Bar Louie and watched the game on TV.

Before the crowds let out of the Sprint Center, we dashed down to Nara. We got a table just in time and ended the night with sushi and wine.

Hearts Are Floating For...Sparkles

I have lots of ideas planned for this weekend including drinks at a fancy hotel bar, an exhibit of artifacts from the Titanic, and a Bloody Mary filled Sunday brunch. Also, the Big 12 College Basketball Conference is being held downtown. While I'm not at all a sports fan, the city is alive with visitors so a stroll through the streets for some people watching is in order.

I hope everyone has a great weekend! And here are some of my favorite sparkly pieces to kick things off.

Hearts Are Floating For...My Kitchen

Meet my new kitchen. It's very Ikea-esque in style...sleek and modern with stainless steel appliances. It's a complete 180 from my kitchen in MA which was straight out of the 1940s complete with an antique Roper stove and white metal cabinets. I've done minimal decorating as most of our belongings are in storage but I'm sure I'll be adding more personal touches as time goes on.

Traditional tea set we bought in China.

Flirty apron for when I'm feeling domestic.

My beloved ramekins that were a shower gift.

Hearts Are Floating For...The Hunger Games

Only three weeks until The Hunger Games movie opens! I'm usually not one who gets excited about movies or TV shows. To be honest, I'm usually pretty apathetic and dismiss all the hype. But I absolutely adore this book and am very excited to see it adapted to the big screen. Jennifer Lawrence is the perfect Katniss and I can only hope that the movie does not disappoint. The trailer gives me hope as it looks very well done. I also like that it doesn't give away too much of the story line. The ending was definitely not what I expected!
