Hearts Are Floating For...Cafe Des Amis

For the first time since we've lived in Kansas City, we got in the car and drove to dinner. One of the benefits to living downtown is that we can walk everywhere and we take full advantage. But sometimes a change of scenery is necessary even if it means it's less convenient. I visited KC for the first time almost exactly one year ago and our first dinner out was at Cafe Des Amis. Saturday night was cool and stormy and this little French restaurant is so cozy that it seemed like the perfect place to spend the evening.

Hearts Are Floating For...Merch For A Mockingjay

WARNING: THIS POST CONTAINS SPOILERS FOR ALL 3 BOOKS

The amount of merchandise available for The Hunger Games trilogy is a bit overwhelming. Unfortunately, most of it is better suited for the Toys R Us target audience. Although I would be thrilled to have both a Katniss and Peeta doll (no judging), I've been on the hunt for items that are more appropriate for those over 12 years old.

"Cinna does my hair in my simple trademark braid down my back. Then the clothes arrive, the same for every tribute. Cinna has had no say in my outfit, does not even know what will be in the package, but he helps me dress in the undergarments, simple tawny pants, light green blouse, sturdy brown belt, and thin, hooded black jacket that falls to my thighs. 'The material in the jacket's designed to reflect body heat. Expect some cool nights', he says." - The Hunger Games

Mockingjay Painted TOMS  (I LOVE these!)

"When I hear the screams of the crowd, I think it's because I must look stunning....Charred bits of black silk swirl into the air, and pearls clatter to the stage...I'm in a dress of the exact design of my wedding dress, only it's the color of coal and made of tiny feathers...Cinna has turned me into a mockingjay...the mockingjay isn't just my token...it's come to symbolize so much more...Something terribly dangerous. An act of rebellion in itself." - Catching Fire

Real or Not Real Keychain (I have to have this if anyone feels inclined to buy me a gift!)

"What I need is the dandelion in the spring. The bright yellow that means rebirth instead of destruction. The promise that life can go on, no matter how bad our losses. That it can be good again. And only Peeta can give me that. So after, when he whispers, 'You love me. Real or not real?' I tell him, 'Real'." - Mockingjay

Hearts Are Floating For...Birchbox April 2012

I sound like a broken record but I have an undying love for Birchbox. It's hands down one of the best gifts I've ever received. Maybe because it's the gift that just keeps giving. Every month I have a new shipment and new surprises to look forward to. My gift subscription has ended and I can't stand the thought of not receiving anything in May so I renewed my membership. I highly recommend this as a present for a special someone in your life. They now have Birchbox Men too!

This month is all about natural beauty. I love the neon green tissue paper they used in this month's box!

Hearts Are Floating For...Theresa's Bridal Shower

I returned home this past weekend for the first time since I moved to Kansas City. It was an emotional visit. My mom lost both of her beloved cats this week. I was able to say goodbye to one and be with her at the end although it was one of the most difficult things I've ever had to do. I also spent time at my house, going through all my belongings I wasn't able to bring with me to KC. Seeing my books, wedding dress, stuffed animals, etc, made me very homesick.

Fortunately, the whole reason I came home was to celebrate my sister-in-law's bridal shower. We had a Sunday morning brunch at the Sherborn Inn. I knew it was going to be beautiful since I helped in the planning but seeing it all come together exceeded my expectations in every way possible. It was truly a great way to end the weekend.

Showered with gifts!

The bride-to-be and her mom...otherwise known as my sister-in-law and mother-in-law.

The favors...my contribution! Inside is tea and chocolate.

My beautiful niece Julia. We bonded over waffles and debated Peeta vs Gale. (In case you're wondering, I'm a Peeta girl all the way!)

Hearts Are Floating For...Avenues Bistro

Easter Sunday was a bit different for us this year. Usually we spend the holiday with family having a low-key dinner at my in-law's home. Bill and I were on our own, so I booked us a brunch reservation at Avenues Bistro. We sipped cocktails and dined on a decadent spread of salads, omelets, and pastries. Later we walked around the Plaza and did some shopping. It was a departure from tradition and a much welcome one in my book. Change is good.

Hearts Are Floating For...First Friday

I love any excuse to eat, drink, shop, and listen to music which makes First Fridays the ultimate evening out. This past weekend, we attended our first monthly street party which is held in the Crossroads District of the city. Art galleries open their doors, food trucks and vendors line the streets and musicians grace every corner.

How much is that kitty in the window?

Hearts Are Floating For...City Market

This past weekend, we enjoyed temperatures into the 90's. I almost forgot that it was the 1st and April Fool's Day since it felt more like July. I took advantage of the nice day and spent the afternoon at the City Market. It's my new favorite thing to do on Sundays. I get an iced latte and people watch from a bench strategically placed in the center of the market and then do my shopping. Each week, more and more vendors arrive and this week has been the best yet.

Pasta! Next time I'm getting the dark chocolate linguine.

Fruits and Veggies....I used the peppers to make Mediterranean Baked Salmon.

I always leave with flowers. I love these colorful tulips!

P.S. Fortunately, I was not a victim of any April Fool's pranks this year. I'm usually easy prey. And I didn't play any myself although I have a great idea stored up for future use! (No, I'm not telling.)
