Hearts Are Floating For...Birchbox May 2012

I've had my May Birchbox for a few weeks now and am just getting around to appreciating its contents. I was excited to see the Gossip Girl theme as it is admittedly a favorite show of mine. Although for the past few seasons, I tune in for the fashion not so much the story lines. Inspired by the city girl (that's me!), this month's box contains:

* BVLGARI Omnia Crystalline Eau de Toilette Spray
* Dr. Jart + Waterfuse BB Cream
* Ojon volume advance Volumizing Conditioner
* stila sparkle waterproof liquid eye liner
* twistband Hair Tie
* Xoxo Notecard (wonder who the lucky recipient will be!)

Hearts Are Floating For...Lawrence, KS

Sunday was a picture perfect day...bright blue skies and temperatures in the mid-70s. It would have been impossible to spend the day indoors so we jumped in the car and headed to Lawrence, KS. This college town is so charming with streets lined with shops and restaurants and plenty of Jayhawk spirit.

Bloody Mary served in a mason jar. We had brunch outdoors at 715.

Adorable cupcake shop with the best name! Sadly, I did not get to try one...next time.

The campus at The University of Kansas...home of the Jayhawks.

Perfect Day

Hearts Are Floating For...Skala Designs

I never would have thought but Kansas City has a huge art community. It seems like every weekend there is an art fair or a gallery event. Recently I met a local jewelry designer and instantly fell in love with her work. I am so drawn to the unique, vintage creations by Amani of Skala Designs. She was also very sweet and so passionate about her work and the stories behind her collections.  Here are a few of my favorites:

The Drunken Bloom Bracelet is what caught my attention. The silk petals are dyed in various types of wine/alcohol. So pretty and guaranteed no one else will have anything like it.

I also love these Berry Cream Pendants for their romantic quality.

Hearts Are Floating For...A Funny Thing Happened...

....I learned how to do floral arrangements! So back in college, our career services department had us all take an assessment test to find out what may be a promising job field that matched our skills and interests. My results came back as "Florist". I should have listened because I got the opportunity to help do all the centerpieces for the Metropolitan Ensemble Theatre's annual gala and I loved every moment. I now know how to use an oasis and build up from the greens to the flowers to the accents. The theme was Roman in celebration of the performance of "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum". I wasn't able to attend the gala but I spent most of Friday helping to prepare. Armed with a diet cherry coke from Sonic, the set up of the centerpieces all went very smoothly, minus the glass strewn floor after a votive mishap (sorry Hobby Lobby).

Completed centerpieces...ready for transport!

Centerpiece, rose petals, and votives

Large arrangement for the piano
(This was not my doing although I watched carefully!)

Hearts Are Floating For...A Hairy Question

So today I was evaluating the frightening state of my hair...dull color, flat, lifeless, and completely lacking any style. I think it's time for a drastic style and/or color change, and I've started compiling inspiration, but I think the problem may be bigger than that. I'm constantly berated by my stylist for shampooing and blow drying every day (and I mean EVERY day) but it's really necessary...trust me. So here's the question: how often do you shampoo and how do you deal with those in between days?
